Teaching and learning

We view education, whether academic, vocational or skills-based, as the best way to ensure children, teenagers and young people are free to; make their own choices in life, can fight for what is important to them and have better life chances. Inspiring young people is not always an easy task, especially when learners come to us with additional challenges.

Our task at MARCH is to help tutors:

  • Motivate even the most challenging of learners
  • Use more effective SEN strategies
  • Experiment with different teaching and learning ideas
  • Have the confidence to manage difficult behaviours
  • Manage differentiation and embedding effectively

We will achieve this by working ‘one to one’ with your tutors to write a lesson plan, team teaching with them and modelling good practice. We can also observe lessons as a ‘buddy’ rather than an official observer to assist the staff member in a way that makes them feel supported.
Secure environments

At MARCH, we have a commitment to making sure children are safe and secure. Our experienced consultant can work within your regime to help identify safeguarding issues, train officers in understanding why children who have committed crimes behave the way they do and help staff to develop safe working practices. We also have a proven track record in reducing challenging behaviours within YOI. We are very aware of the stresses staff experience in this type of environment and any work we do with your staff will always take this into account.

Equality and diversity

MARCH can review areas of equality including harassment. In this area, our consultant has over 25 years' of experience in being able to efficiently evaluate situations and make suggestions on how to overcome concerns. Sometimes clients approach us with a request to simply write a report on how their environment can be more inclusive, while, at other times we are approached to conduct a full investigation involving interviews and analysis of difficult and sensitive areas.

When we are involved in any equality area, MARCH is always sensitive and fair in their assessment and ensures that organisations are protected by limiting the risk of a situation becoming worse.
